The Tug-of-War of Free Advice

The Tug-of-War of Free Advice

I get requests to pick my brain all the time, and I hate it.

Not because I do not want to help, but because of the emotional tug-of-war that follows every single request.

The Guilt

I feel guilty for not making time.

I was once in the position of wanting to learn from someone 10 steps ahead.

I often find myself even still in that position.

So I understand the desire to reach out and ask.

The Anger

Then I get angry at myself for feeling guilty.

They want to pick your brain because you have high-value advice to give!

THEY should feel sheepish about asking for that for free!

The Internal Battle

Which voice wins really depends on the day.

Something I want to be better at, and I do not know why, I cannot seem to get past it.

Conclusion

The tension between wanting to help others and valuing your own expertise is real, and I am still figuring out how to navigate it.

If you struggle with this too, you are not alone.
